Holiday Exhibit Now Open!

November 5, 2009

The A.P.P.L.E. Center for Sustainable Living is hosting an Open House this Saturday November 7th to showcase their newest exhibit, “Celebrating the Holidays, New Traditions for Sustainable Living”

“Sustainability in the holidays has to do with managing personal stress levels as much as considering the environmental consequences of our purchasing decisions,” said Center Director, Mali Dyck.

The current exhibit addresses both of these ideas and more, with alternative gift giving, upcycling, gift-wrapping, Christmas trees and statistics on holiday related waste and pollution. With the help of Shuniaa Yoga Studio, Shuniaa_logo_finalthe Center transformed its conference room into a “Decompression Lounge.” The lounge features comfortable furniture as well as a traditional Wishing Tree where visitors are welcome to write messages of gratitude or wishes for the New Year on upcycled paper ornaments to hang on the tree.

The exhibit is sponsored by the Briar Patch Community Co-op and Shuniaa Yoga Studio and will be on display until January 3rd, 2010

This Saturday, November 7th, the Center will host an Open House to introduce the new exhibit to the public.  From 2-3pm a local beekeeper will offer tasting of his 12 different flavors of honey, and from 4-6 Vanessa Smith will host Coconut Bliss Hour, with free samples of Coconut Bliss Ice Cream.  The Open house opens at

11am and closes at 6pm.

The Center has also added a few select gift items for sale for the holiday season, all locally created with sustainability in mind.
